The Value of Training
Training is my life.
To me it is not just an activity to pass the time, or even for the purpose of learning martial arts skills. It is rooted in every aspect of my life. It has given me many things, and I strive to use it in every situation - and I’m not talking about the punches and the kicks. I’m talking about the connection, the mindset, and the values.
I started training in the second grade. As I’ve grown as a person, the way I have applied Pukulan to my life has changed and evolved. There were milestones to this path. I started teaching, I brought my meditation into other aspects of my life, I developed values rooted in training.
In this way, I have experienced the community of the school, and my life has changed according to my path.
The community of the school is very important to me, and I hold it in my heart dearly. As I go through a hard time, I can find connection and joy from others that I train with, teach, and learn from. At first glance, this kind of community seems to have become a rarity in this world, and yet if you look you can see that human connection exists everywhere, and it is very beautiful.
Meditation has given me a mindset. Surrender and release. Surrender anger, surrender sadness, surrender fear. They are not useless emotions, and they should not be erased, but when they cloud your mind, you can release them so that you can see clearly. Surrender anything not serving your highest health and well-being, work through them with a clear head.
What truly matters to me are a person’s values. My training has influenced mine greatly, and I see how it shapes others as well.
Training has given me healing, it has given me community, it has given me a mindset, it has given me values, and it has given me so much joy.
It can give you so many things, so don’t neglect it.
